ASAP Advice Pty Ltd (“A.S.A.P.”) is a privately owned company based in Hobart, Tasmania. Our CEO, Jim Hennington, is an experienced businessman, financial adviser and is a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries of Australia. Formed in June 2016, A.S.A.P. is 100% owned by four private investors and employs a talented team of advisers, customer service staff, programmers and marketing consultants.
A.S.A.P. was built to fill the gap left when the ‘accountants exemption’ was repealed in 2016.
SMSF accountants who chose not to get an AFSL can refer to us (digitally) for highly focused financial product advice that supplements (not duplicates) their accounting, tax and administration services. There are no ongoing charges to the accountant and the advice is delivered by our advisers, under our license.
A.S.A.P. has worked with a senior AFS licensing partner from Mills Oakley to design a licensing solution that makes sense for accountants. This solution uses technology to drive down costs and maximise ease of use.
Jim Hennington and Liam Azzopardi are both experienced SMSF professionals who previously worked for Bendzulla Actuarial, Australia’s leading provider of actuarial certificates. A.S.A.P. uses similar online technology to Bendzulla, who used it to service 70,000 actuarial certificates per year to the SMSF sector.
In early 2016 it became clear that accountants were not happy with the licensing options being presented to them when the ‘accountants exemption’ was repealed on 1 July 2016. A.S.A.P. was founded in response to accountants’ requests for a streamlined, outsourced way for their SMSF clients to get financial product advice when mandated, without having to refer their clients to a holistic financial planning service.
A.S.A.P.’s offering was confirmed in June 2016 when BDO Hobart endorsed the idea and agreed to refer SMSF clients to the platform. It has been further endorsed by hundreds of conversations and demonstrations with SMSF accountants and other SMSF service providers across Australia. In January 2017 Topdocs integrated with A.S.A.P. – giving A.S.A.P. users the option to also automate the implementation of our advice.
A.S.A.P. have received assistance from the ASIC Innovation Hub since September 2016, and we have continued to work with Mills Oakley for sign-off of our ‘safe-use’ guides.
Users of A.S.A.P. are supported by a dedicated team and every advice order goes through a quality control process to ensure we deliver quality and flexibility for more complex scenarios that may arise.
The team have recently been announced as a finalist in SMSF Adviser’s ‘SMSF and Accounting Awards 2017’ due to their excellent customer service standards.
